Jhanya: Surprise! We know it's a Friday and it's 8 pm, but we just had to publish this review today given that Ed Sheeran is back kjasdghhkjdhfj Don't worry though, we will still be publishing our regular review tomorrow, Saturday, at 7 pm. And we've got an interesting one this week xD Anyway, on to review!

Bad Habits is the newest pounding pop number of Ed Sheeran. Released on the 25th of June 2021, the song shocked fans with a major shift from the artist’s usual pop-ballad genre.

"Swearin' this will be the last but it probably won't,

I got nothin' left to lose, or use, or do"

Ria: Ed Sheeran!! I missed you. <3 I can still remember me crying to Happier (a song in the Divide album) and crazily dancing to Shape of You. (totally not embarrassed). Bad Habits is a totally different genre to what Ed Sheeran usually does. His usual songs are wedding-type songs that are mushy, romantic, and just swoon-worthy. However, this time he deviated more with an edgy, bopping sound, and he delivered well. Bad Habits is a really good song. It has great instrumentation and relevant meaning.

Jhanya: Two years without a full solo album from Ed Sheeran is too long a time SHEESH (I know this is only a single. But we’re getting closer okay). But this time he pulled something new out of that bright pink sleeve. Baring his fangs, especially to the people who called him boring, the pop artist releases his new bass-heavy and upbeat pop single Bad Habits reflecting on his own bad habits in the past.

Ria: The melody of Bad Habits is unexpected. It is the usual flowy song or the usual edgy-shouty song. It’s actually a mix of both. The instrumentation does a good build-up from verse to chorus. The drops on the chorus really make me want to get up and dance (I actually have a choreography drawn up in my head already hehe).

Jhanya: As a bass lover, those bass drops during the chorus are just *chef’s kiss*. Similar to the vibe of his more recent songs, Bad Habits is a really upbeat song that starts slow before picking up the beat during the chorus. Though it’s nothing super original, the meaning of the song really shines through. Especially when paired with the fantastical yet meaningful music video.

Ria: Ed Sheeran reflects on his past bad habits of drinking and partying, and their consequences. He sings how no matter how pure his initial intentions were, the night brings about a dark, wild, side of him. Ultimately, he talks about how these bad habits have affected him for the worse. It’s a refreshing feel from his usual romantic, love songs. We all have our light and dark sides. And often we only show the good one, but it’s important to also acknowledge our darker personality and see how it fits into who we are. We need to accept it to be able to grow as a whole.
