Out of all our corners, music had the most reviews mainly because when we were running out of things to review, there’s always gonna be a new song released just around the corner hahaha
Ria: Continuing off with the Music Corner (MC), we’ll be recapping the top review among the albums and songs we reviewed this year, our favorite album review, and our favorite 2021 music. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this second special review!! And also, Merry Christmas 🎄

SOUR
Olivia Rodrigo
Let’s give it up to SOUR by Oliva Rodrigo for being the 2021 Music Corner Review with the most views and unique visitors, and also being the most viewed post in our blog for 2021!!! As we’ve said multiple times this year, THE POWER OF OLIVIA RODRIGO IS REAL xD We can’t wait to see what more she can achieve. Our rising star is ready to take over the world indeed 👑.
Favorite Review
Happier Than Ever
Billie Eilish
Jhanya: Besides SOUR, only one other album has been stuck in my head after listening to it for a review, and it’s Happier Than Ever by Billie Eilish. As I’ve mentioned in our review, this album was so different, yet felt familiar at the same time. It also goes to my list of all-time favorite albums in terms of production. I had so much fun writing its review because I was typing my notes while listening to the songs for the first time, so my reactions were all over the place given how much this album surprised me.
Ria: This album has to be another of my favorite reviews because I had a lot of fun studying the songs in this album. It was quite a wild ride and I loved learning more about Billie Eilish, as well. My reactions to this album were also quite mixed so it was a lot of fun organizing my thoughts and feelings. This may not be my favorite album of this year, this album is still something I would find to listen to.
Jhanya & Ria's 2021 Faves
#1 Album: Pebble House
Ben&Ben
To be completely honest, this album came 3rd in my top albums this year, tied with Happier Than Ever, but it is my favorite album overall, technicalities and production aside. If it was released earlier this year, it definitely would’ve topped my Spotify Wrapped beside SOUR. Yes, that’s how much I loved this album.
It’s been a while since I’ve genuinely liked a full OPM album, it’s mainly been only singles and EPs for years, and I’m happy that Pebble House broke that slump. This 2nd studio album of Ben&Ben was an absolute gem with its meaningful lyrics and tantalizing instrumentation throughout. The songs were already bops themselves, with a varying mix of genres, but the added underlying messages in each song are just purely satisfying. It also gives off very “Tatak Pinoy” vibes that make them all the more relatable.
Top Songs
Good 4 U by Olivia Rodrigo
Yes! My favorite song of the year is Olivia Rodrigo’s Good 4 U. I was blown away when I first listened to it because I really didn’t expect it, given that the song came out after drivers license and deja vu. I was also fangirling the whole time because it’s a punk rock song with amazing instrumentation and gives off strong Paramore, All Time Low, and Green Day vibes which just really takes me back to the early 2010s. It’s also the perfect song to jam to when you’re in a bad mood and of course, I’ve had my good share of stressful moments this year haha. For more of my thoughts on this song, you can read our review on the full album here.
Be My Lover by Kim Jong-kook & ATEEZ
For those who know me, you’re probably wondering how and why I have a K-Pop song as one of my favorites this year xD I’ve been watching a lot of Running Man recently and found out about Kim Jong-kook’s new songs which of course, lead me to Be My Lover. Don’t get me wrong, I really don’t listen to K-Pop unless they’re from 2nd Gen artists (ex. Super Junior, CNBlue, Girls Gen., etc.) because I’m an old soul at heart, but I gave this a listen because it’s KJK LMAO (I feel old, just thinking about it ;-;). Be My Lover isn’t your usual, modern K-pop song, it’s very 1st to 2nd Gen K-Pop with a mix of the modern, which is just absolutely refreshing and fun. The MV that comes with it is also a huge bonus haha. If I said earlier that Good 4 U is my go-to song in times of stress, then Be My Lover is my go-to song when I’m in a great mood.
#1 Album: RED (Taylor's Version)
Taylor Swift
Hands down my favorite album of this year, and it only came out last month!!! I prefer this album from her original one and from her re-recorded Fearless album, actually. I don’t really think it’s because of the theme in this album. It’s just that the songs themselves are very well written and super heartfelt. I guess other albums that I loved are SOUR and Happier Than Ever.
This also is my favorite albums because of the From the Vault songs. Although I have my favorites, I love all of them and wouldn't really skip any of them if they were to play in my playlist. I think that's what really makes this album my favorite. The fact that I would really listen to all songs.
Top Songs
All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor's Version)
by Taylor Swift
With that being my favorite album, my favorite song of 2021 would be All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version). I think it was around two weeks that I had this song on repeat whenever I studied. And with the number of times I had this on repeat, it became my gauge of time. HHAHAHAHAHAHAAH Anyway, this song was also something that I learned from every time I listened to it. There was something new that I discovered on each replay which is what I love most about the song. And of course, the short film was like the cherry on top. I cried so badly when I watched that.
Yours (from Jirisan OST) by Jin of BTS
Okay so. Kpop song. I got into k-pop this year during the quarantine HAHAHAHAHAH So my knowledge on it is actually super small right now (mostly just Blackpink, BTS, and OSTs). Anyway, this isn’t my favorite k-pop song actually. My favorite wasn’t released this year so taking into account that it had to be released this year, my favorite would be Yours by Jin (of BTS), and OST from the drama Jirisan. I actually haven’t watched the drama itself but I came across this song and absolutely love it. The emotion that can be heard from his vocals is just *chef’s kiss*. The instrumental of this song is also something I really like so yes. Although, I feel like this might change with the release of Christmas Tree by V (of BTS) from Our Beloved Summer OST (OUT NOW!!). It depends on how nice that song is tbh. Anyway, am looking forward to delving more into k-pop next year and learning about more groups hehe.
Final Thoughts
Jhanya: If there’s one thing I love about 2021, it’s gonna be the number of beautiful songs released this year. I really couldn’t catch a break with all my favorite artists releasing new songs left and right, not to mention the new artists I also discovered this year. It’s been a very fun year for music and I’m really looking forward to what’s to come next year, 2022.
Ria: 2021 is a wild year for me, music-wise. I finally go into k-pop and am absolutely loving it. Taylor Swift released her re-recorded albums and the Ten Minute All Too Well just killed me. I’ve also been exposed to other genres and artists like Sasha Sloan, Olivia Rodrigo, and The Weeknd. I really think that music helped me a lot this year so I have to say I’m really looking forward to more awesome music in 2022 (and that next BTS album 😭).
See you guys on our next special! xx
